Ok some pics of today's progress: Timing Belt/ Valve covers off T28 turbo, heat shields removed Some pretty heavy corrosion inside the coolant inlet/outlet and thermostat, time for a Nismo replacement! Finally the valve and Timing covers, what color should I have them powder coated? I'm having trouble deciding

too late....blue top, i'll unveil the final product tomorrow
colored cams really wouldn't be seen even if i did have no cover/clear cover. Rb25 has VVT so both are coverd with weird sensors...basically just my excuse to same some dough on new colored gears ;D

cross referenced some "mantinence" parts today at autozone: Here's a pick of the mostly assembled engine, with the blue valve covers (they look too light in the pic, in actuality they are a dark glossy blue) Also an update: found out that the turbo is "blown." I bought a rebuild kit and I'm just going to sit down and fix that shiznat. Aside from that mildly depressing news, I was able to track down a transmission for a reasonable price in Virginia, so later this week I'm driving up there to pick it up.

everything looks pretty good so far man... i give you an A+ on doing the maintnence stuff! when you rebuild a turbo (correct me if im wrong) dont you have to get that shit rebalanced?

when you rebuild a turbo (correct me if im wrong) dont you have to get that shit rebalanced? Thats a good point you brought up. Basically the "rebalancing depends on several things. First, the structure of the turbine/shaft assembly...is it bolted together, or made as "one piece"? The more-than-one piece structure will more often than the one-piece design call for rebalancing. Aside from that fact, rebalancing is usually not needed if care is taken disassembling the turbine. Companies that rebuild turbos just charge for rebalancing because they can...it's one of those processes that sounds necesary, but is not often required. Thanks for looking out though...I had totally forgotten about rebalancing when I was piecing together this rebuild.
