I'm not saying just go with a civic. However, for a high school student with a low income, theres not a lot that can go wrong with it. 92-95 civics are the perfect beginner platform. parts are cheaper than a McDonalds dollar menu(in retrospect to the rest of the cars). they are more common than a dog named spot and insurance is probably less expensive than anything but a geo metro. Then, theres the arrair of swaps availible. US motors include the following- D16Z6(if not already equipped-Si,EX stock motor) SOHC VTEC, 130hp with this motor, there are tons of options. Boost is availible in any form, turbo or supercharger. They react somewhat well to boost, usually yielding a good torque number, compared to their hp. There are tons of bolt ons availible and the motors are everywhere. OBD1 ZC- very uncommon swap, but availible. bout the same hp number as the D16Z6, but a bit more torque. Very fun motor and cheap. Don't expect to get much from the motor though. Parts are hard to find, especially for OBD1. Kyle(SOHCMAN) is probably the best person to speak to about this cause for some stupid reason, he's still stuck into the D series thing(we think its cause he's prolly gay) B-series. All B's require Axles and mounts from 94-99 integra, and a few wires to be run if the car isnt Si or EX. B18B- integra LS motor- Not a very common swap due to the fact that it doesnt make huge Hp numbers. stock is something like 140, but with gobs more torque than the vtec motors. This is probably the cheapest swap availible. Motor has lots of potential when paired with a VTEC head to create an LS-VTEC. Makes more Hp and torque than most all the factory motors. B20V/Z- CRV motor- basicly the exact same motor as the LS, but with .2L more displacement. These make more torque than all the other b-series motors, but do not turn the high RPM's the others do. B16- availible in Del Sol VTEC, marked by the DOHC stickers. 160 hp, 120?ft-lbs. Cheap US motor. Somewhat hard to find motor, but is possible to find. This is a VTEC motor which drives the price up. B18C- GSR integra- 170hp- little more expensive than all the rest probably. Probably easier to find than a B16 Del Sol. also, DOHC VTEC as the B16. B16- OBDII- availible in 99-00 Civic Si. Also 160hp. This motor is OBDII so the wiring harness and a few others will have to be swapped in place of OBD1 to run in the 92-95 chassis. Those are only the american motors. Japan has a few others including Civic type R(CTR) and integra Type R(ITR) which will be a little more expensive and make somewhat more power. If you want to go nuts go H-series or off the wall and go K-series. They both require custom mounts, axles and wiring. Probably a little out of anybody here(Except eugene- lol)'s pocket book. Research the cars and go with something you want. There are plenty of other imports that can make a ton of Domestics go home crying with minimal mods. Just look around, do some research and come up with an amount you're willing to throw into the budget and we can give you some more options availible.

mm that a good question, but the way i see it is that it might void the warranty.... that a yes and no, basically, if the engine fails.. they might blame it on the CAI, but it other part like the tranny fails, they might have a hard time trying to blame the cai and getting those 2 related. and sorry i can't help you on the dealer question

Depends on the Dealership and the tech you deal with. Some will say yes, some say no. Put the car back to stock before you take it back.
