first off, as the thread starter, i am asking to keep it clean and courteous. minimize threadjacking.
second, post up detailing questions here.
and here you go:
EXTERIOR
1. Wash car with P21S bodywork conditioning shampoo and wool mitt. 1 capful of shampoo in about 3/4 gallons works well for me. i usually need 1.5 gallons to do a thorough wash. Motion of wool mitt is always front to back
2. Wash wheels with P21S total autowash 1:8 dilution. also use this dilution or slightly stronger one for the wheel wells
3. Use the 3M general purpose adhesive cleaner to remove tar. Wash off areas where the 3M cleaner was applied. This time around, I needed very little since 1:8 dilution of P21S total autowash did the trick on most crud.
4. Dry car with P21S drying cloth. Final dry with waffle weave towel. Motion of drying cloth and waffle weave towel is again front to back
5. Claybar with smartclay with smartdetail spray.
6. Repeat steps 1 and 4.
7. Apply plexus to paint protection film (PPF). Wipe off and do not rinse.
8. Apply poorboy's SSR1 with foam applicator and buff in with microfiber cloth. It took 2 cloths to do the entire car. I also used SSR1 on the wheels. Use q-tips along edges of the paint protection film and small *crevices*. dipping the q-tips in smartdetail works really well to get any buildup along the PPF lines
9. Apply a layer of the klasse all-in-on wax. Use microfiber cloth to work in. Spray smartdetail to work in residue. Wipe off with another microfiber cloth. Again use q-tips on edges and crevices.
this time, i did not need to use the smartdetail. the klasse wax worked it in really well.
here, i have added another step:
apply layer of P21S concours look carnauba wax and buff with microfiber cloth.
10. Apply 303 aerospace protectant on front bumper mesh and to exterior rubber and plastic trim including wheel wells.
11. Apply poorboy's wheel sealant on wheels with foam applicator and buff in with microfiber cloth.
12. Apply stoner's to glass. I used plexus for my windshield protection film.
13. Apply mothers polish to exhaust tips with rag and then rub in.
for my rag, i actually use a surgical towel. with one corner in one hand and another in the other hand, i rub in with the *shoe shine motion* moving from side to side. it works well to apply pressure and work in the polish
14. Apply poorboy's bold n bright tire dressing to tires. to do this, i poured a small amount of the tire dressing into a coffee can. then i dabbed the 3" tire dressing brush and applied it to the tires. i found the best way to do this is moving brush from outside of tire face toward the wheel and back and forth. with the brush's bristles along the radius and moving round and round the wheel did not work in the dressing well especially around the lettering.
15. spray on smartdetail on the paint and wipe/work in with microfiber. Apply majestic solutions pink stuff as a final spray and wipe on the paint.
INTERIOR
1. Use pledge dust mitt on large surfaces.
2. Use fine brush and q-tips for vents and small cracks. i use the hog hair short bristle detail brush
3. Vacuum inside and mats. i have since taken out my oem carpet mats and put in all-weather mats. i use left over P21 total autowash on these and use the dip & wash brush to scrub them then rinse. set them aside to dry.
4. Use 303 on plastic and vinyl including inside trunk. wipe with microfiber. Use q-tips to get all edges and along gaps and cracks. dipping the q-tip in the 303 and then using works well.
5. Apply lexol ph leather cleaner to leather with terry cloth applicator. Wipe/buff using microfiber cloth. Use q-tips to apply in hard to reach places. i have found it is best to apply to one small section and then wipe using microfiber
6. Apply lexol leather conditioner and let sit overnight. Buff away excess with microfiber cloth. Use q-tips to get hard to reach excess.
7. Use the plexus plastic cleaner for the plastic "window" in front of the instrument cluster and other tidbits on console, etc.
8. Apply stoner's to interior side of the glass and wipe away with microfiber.
9. Wax inside of doors and apply 303 to door sills. i wax these areas using steps described for exterior
with all done, dunk used microfiber cloths, terry cloth applicators, and foam applicators in bucket with high dilution of P21S total autowash. for the microfibers used for waxing, i first put in a container with water and a capful of white vinegar. i let it sit for a bit (about 30 min. to 1 hour).
let them sit for a bit and then rinse. run in washing machine without any detergent 1-2 times. on gentle cycle. take out foam applicators and let drip dry. then run again with small amount of detergent. then final run without detergent. let all drip dry.
steps to add:
-remove wheels to clean them. then clean wheel wells more thoroughly and suspension as well.
there are still some tidbits i left out, but that is essentially all i do.
