9 extra......i dont have projectors, but those look really nice....is 6000k blue? ive seen some table before that list whats what, i think over 8000k or 9 the light becomes purple? im not sure if what im sayin is right at all....but i saw somthing like that before i did a group buy on the predator chromiums so that is why there are 10 kits total shipped to me. aftermarket DDEs are quite common. they are a direct plug and play for most bimmers. and as you know, several series come with OEM ones. it is called the 6000k kit but it obviously is not HID. the correct labeling is 6000k equivalent or 6000k look. 6000k is the temp rating for xenons. 4000k-4500k is the range of most stock HID headlights. the higher the temp rating, the more blue the light appears. you are right: true 8000k starts to look quite purplish. note that most folks think the higher the temp rating, the more light output. this is absolutely wrong. it is the opposite. i wish i had the chart showing the lumens vs. kelvin rating at x wattage. the best i could find is the one linked below which is not a great display of the lumen decrease but gives an idea: lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/sports-imports/hidspecs.htmlin any case, iirc, the % drop in lumens going from stock 4000-4300k to 6000-6500k is about 10-15% and obviously more for 8000k. 6000-6500k is probably the best balance between aesthetics and driver's visibility. 8000k and above has been reported to look too *rice* and visibility is certainly a concern. a lot of times, folks *upgrade* to 6000k or 6500k and report that visibility is better. well, on white pavement, it may appear that way. on black pavement, you certainly can tell there is a visibility drop and it is more strikingly so in the rain. also, simply put, the eye is *tricked* into thinking there is more light emitted with the temp rating higher favoring blue. the reason for this is that because of the shift in color to a slightly bluer coloration, such things as road signs and license plates reflect more of that light, as it is a more concentrated version of these higher kelvin rated waves than we are normally used to.
